Free ATS CV checker: how the diagnosis works
Short answer: Upload your CV (PDF or Word) and DrCV reads it the way an ATS does, then gives you a free score and its main problems. Next you can get a detailed diagnosis with a fix for every issue, or have us write the CV and preview it before you pay.
DrCV works like a clinic: diagnosis comes before treatment. You upload your CV, it is read the way an applicant tracking system (ATS) and a recruiter read it, and you get a free general diagnosis. Then you choose: learn how to fix every issue yourself, or have us write the CV for you.
Why check your CV before applying?
Most mid-size and large employers receive applications through an ATS. It extracts the text of your CV into fields such as education, skills and work history so recruiters can search it later (Workday). When parsing fails, Greenhouse's documentation says the resume is only attached to the candidate profile and the team has to enter the data by hand (Greenhouse). Research from Harvard Business School found that hiring processes built for efficiency can screen out qualified candidates for formal reasons.
How the check works
- Upload your current CV as PDF or Word on the check page, or start from scratch by answering short questions.
- The file is parsed into sections, roles, dates and skills.
- You get the general diagnosis for free: an ATS compatibility score and the main problems.
- You choose the next step: the detailed diagnosis, “we do it for you”, or stop there.
What the diagnosis looks at
| Area | What we check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Readability | Real selectable text, no tables, columns or text boxes | The most common parsing failures according to Greenhouse |
| Contact details | Name, phone and email in the body, not the header | Headers and footers may not be parsed |
| Sections | Standard headings: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills | The ATS uses them to classify content |
| Experience | Full job titles, consistent dates, achievements not just duties | Harvard recommends specific language and quantified results |
| Keywords | Are the skills of your field written the way employers search for them? | Recruiters search the ATS by keyword |
Three steps: general, detailed, or we do it
- General diagnosis (free): the score and main problems.
- Detailed diagnosis: every issue with its cause and a step-by-step fix, for people who prefer to edit their own CV.
- We do it for you: a full CV written in English or Arabic from the diagnosis; you see a preview before paying and get a PDF in “My orders”.
How to read your result
Fix the problems that block parsing first (scanned file, columns, tables), then missing sections, then wording and keywords. A quick self-test: open your file, select all the text and paste it into a plain text editor. If it comes out complete and in order, that is a good sign. Read the ATS-friendly resume guide and the CV checklist for detail.
What the check does not do
- It cannot guarantee a job or a pass in every ATS.
- It never invents experience or numbers.
- It does not ask for a card for the general diagnosis.
FAQ
Is the DrCV CV check free?
Yes. The general diagnosis is free and needs no payment card: upload your CV and get its ATS compatibility score and its main problems.
What is the difference between the general and the detailed diagnosis?
The general diagnosis gives you the score and the main problems. The detailed diagnosis lists every issue in your CV with step-by-step instructions to fix it yourself.
What does “We do it for you” mean?
We write your full CV from the diagnosis and your answers to a few short questions, and you see a preview of the new CV before you decide to pay.
Does a high score guarantee my CV passes every ATS?
No. Every employer configures its system differently and a person makes the final decision. A high score means your CV avoids the common parsing and formatting problems you control.
Will you add experience or certificates I don't have?
No. The diagnosis and the writing use only what is in your CV and what you tell us.
What happens to my CV after the check?
It is used only to provide the service. A CV that was prepared but not paid for is deleted automatically after 7 days. See the privacy policy.
